City of Palmerston Update COVID-19

City of Palmerston is supporting residents, businesses and visitors during this time of uncertainty through its Liveable Cities grant scheme, virtual Library Storytime and free all-day parking.

The Liveable Cities grant scheme encourages commercial property and business owners to undertake upgrades and renovations to shopfronts through dollar for dollar funding, up to the value of the property or business owner’s annual rates. Commercial property and business owners are encouraged to take advantage of the grant scheme and can find out more by contacting Council directly through palmerston@palmerston.nt.gov.au

The Palmerston Library will live stream Storytime events starting this Thursday 26 March 2020 through the City of Palmerston Facebook page. The Library has already started click and collect borrowing options, where members can select books which will be ready for collection soon after. These options provide the community with flexibility in how they access Library resources and assist with social distancing requirements.

Council will be extending its current free timed parking options in Palmerston to include free all day parking in the city area until the 30 June 2020. The free parking initiative will support local businesses in these challenging times. It will also be safer for the community with parking users no longer needing to use ticketing machines or display a ticket.

Quote from City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell

“COVID-19 is changing the way in which all of us live our daily life and these initiatives go to supporting our local Palmerston community in these unprecedented times”.

“I would like encourage our community to continue to support local businesses, especially our cafes and restaurants by purchasing takeaways meals and products.”
