To achieve greater safety for all, Palmerston Region Safe Communities Committee works in partnership with Council, the Northern Territory Government, businesses and the community to reduce and prevent injuries, accidents and crime. Safe Communities also promotes safety in the home, in the community, at work and at play.

Safe Communities is comprised of six working groups which each have a specific focus:

  • Alcohol Management Reference Group - promotes "healthy living with alcohol", with a strong emphasis on community consultation.
  • Child Safety Working Group - aims to raise awareness of the major causes of childhood injuries and to reduce the number of children under 15 presenting to hospital for treatment of injuries.
  • Palmlesstonnes - is a healthy lifestyle challenge encouraging people to make positive changes in their life, such as increasing exercise, eating better and meeting new people.
  • Personal and Social Safety Working Group - guides community efforts to improve safety and stop violence and its associated impacts in Palmerston.
  • Palmerston Safe Schools - develops an inclusive, cooperative and strong Safe Schools community that enhances the social, cultural, environmental and personal wellbeing of all schools.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation - provides support and guidance on ways to collect data and evaluate the effectiveness of the Safe Communities network.

If you have any concern about safety or would like more information about Palmerston Regional Safe Communities activities and events, please contact the Coordinator on 08 8935 9943 or by email.
