Australia Day
Australia Day is January 26.
Council celebrates Australia Day with a Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony each year. The ceremony is held at Palmerston High School gymnasium (off Tilston Avenue, Driver) from 3-5pm and is open to the general public.

Australia Day Awards 2010
The Palmerston Australia Day Awards:
- Community Event of the Year,
- Citizen of the Year, and
- Young Citizen of the Year
provides an important opportunity for our community to acknowledge local achievers for their outstanding contribution to our community.
The awards are a major feature of our Australia Day celebrations and takes pride of place as part of our Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony.
Our awards are presented to citizens and groups in recognition of outstanding achievement and contribution to our community.
The Community Event of the Year is about an event that has showcased Palmerston, brought business, people or sponsorship to our community. The award is presented to citizens or groups in recognition of outstanding achievement and contribution to our community. Citizens or groups who have given of themselves to make Palmerston a "Great place to live". A person or group who goes "Above and beyond the call of duty", and who has contributed to make Palmerston a special place,
The Citizen of the Year and the Young Citizen of the Year is presented to very special people in recognition of outstanding achievement and contribution to our community, who have given of themselves to make Palmerston a "Great place to live". A person who goes "Above and beyond the call of duty", is always there when someone needs a hand and who has contributed to make Palmerston a special place.
