KAT Programs for Children & Youth

Kids Action Time (KAT)

Kids Action Time is an age specific literacy program that promotes the love of reading through innovative, dynamic and engaging activity programs designed to provide early developmental and lifelong learning opportunities for children from newborn to 18 years.

If there is one place in Palmerston where we know kids can have fun, it's in the Kiddy KATs living room. Imagine- an entire area devoted to letting kids be kids, whilst encouraging them to learn, play and grow.

For further information and details on KAT programs for children and youth please call the library on 8935 9999 or view and print out the KAT programs Brochure from our Publications page.

Nursery Tales

You're never too young to enjoy reading. Babies absorb information and react to sound and touch and the voice of their loved ones reading to them.

Nursery Tales involves songs, puppets, nursery rhymes and movement chosen specifically to enhance your babies early literacy development. We encourage parents/carers to get a library card for their child so that they can select books to take home after attending program sessions.

Attend two sessions of Nursery Tales, get your baby a Librarylibrary card and you will be eligible to receive a special bag that includes a picture board book, an e-book illustrated by Allison Lester, a Communities for Children New Palmerston Parents information kit and baby's first bookmark. A discount Coffee Card from Sim's Fusion Cafe is also included.

When babies turn twelve months old they then graduate to Tunes and Tales - a special graduation ceremony is held twice a year for this.

Nursery Tales is held every Wednesday 10.00am - 10.45am.

Tunes and Tales

Say goodbye to quiet libraries - this is when things get noisy! Join our KAT team and sing, dance, listen to stories and watch play with puppets for our story time sessions. Tunes and Tales is an interactive, fun and engaging storytime session suitable for children up to 5 years of age. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Storytime Snow White

The Frillies Club - Year One Students

Become a member of the Frillies Club. The Frillies Club is for Transition and Year One students. The club aims to assist every Year One child in the Palmerston area to develop a life-long love of reading and encourage them to join their local library. Every time members visit the library and borrow, the library staff will stamp their log. When three stamps have been collected they will get to take a lucky dip from the Freckles the Frilly Box in the library. Special story time sessions will also be held at various times throughout the year.

We will be sending out Frillies Newsletters from time to time to keep members informed of what good things are available to borrow and when the special story time sessions are being held.

We look forward to seeing Frillies Club members when they come to the library.
