Free Library membership
Membership of the Palmerston Library is free to Territory residents and there is no age limit. For non-residents a $50 refundable deposit is required, less a $5 administration fee.
All you need to do is show proof of your identity and current residential and postal address. People under 18 years of age require the signature and identification of a parent or guardian.
Items available for loan:
The Library has a wide range of items for loan including
- Books, magazines, videos, CD-ROMs, music CDs, DVDs, Large Print books, spoken word (books on cassette and CD), LOTE (Languages other than English).
You can borrow up to a total of fifteen items, including ten audio visual items (DVDS, videos and CDs).
Borrowing periods
Books Four weeks
Magazines Two weeks
Audio visual One week
The loan period can be extended in most instances providing another borrower does not require the item.
Just contact the library on 8935 9999 and we can arrange a renewal for you. Alternatively you can renew over the Internet (if the items aren't overdue) or in person.
Overdues
To ensure that everyone has access to the resources of the Library, we take overdues seriously. Please ensure your items are returned on time, or renewed, to avoid any infringements.
After hours returns
An after hours return chute is located on the Boulevard side of the Library building. This chute is not available when the Library is open.
Reserving Library Items
If a Library item is out we can reserve it for you. When the item is returned to the Library we will contact you by post or email to let you know that it is available.
Online catalogue and resources
Log on to the Library Catalogue
You can use your library card number and password to access your own record. Unless otherwise specified, your password is the last 4 numbers of your barcode. Contact library staff to confirm your password.
You can also use this login to access online databases, educational resources, community information and news, and of course search the Library Catalogue.

Reader Request Program
If our library does not hold a particular item that you require we will either purchase it for you OR access it from another library*.
*Please note that if the item you request is held in another library which charges access fees that fee will be passed on to you.
