Council responds to Graffiti
Graffiti vandalism is a crime. City of Palmerston Council is combining forces with Darwin City Council and the Northern Territory Police to "Wipe Out Graffiti". Palmerston Lord Mayor Robert Macleod and Darwin Lord Mayor Graeme Sawyer will launch the program this Monday 1st December.
They are calling on the public to work with the NT Police and Councils in an effort to catch those perpetrating these acts of criminal vandalism. To tackle this problem we need to have the support of the public. The NT Police will record offences and prosecute where possible, councils will remove/cover graffiti on their property and assist residents and businesses in responding to graffiti on private property.
The program is simple:
Report all incidents of graffiti to the Police on 131 444. The Police will issue you with a Police Report Reference Number.
Take a photograph if you can, and send the photograph and the police report reference number to the NT Police Graffiti Taskforce on graffiti.taskforce@pfes.nt.gov.au
Both Palmerston and Darwin Councils will provide residents and business with resources to remove graffiti should they become victims of a graffiti attack. Remember, customers will need to supplu their police report reference number to council before obtaining resources. A limit of one voucher per property applies.
