The Palmerston Recreation Centre in the City Centre, and the Swimming & Fitness Centre in Moulden will be experiencing some changes.
Programs and services delivered by the YMCA Top End will cease at the Palmerston Recreation Centre from 27 April 2017, and at the Palmerston Swimming & Fitness Centre from 30 June 2017, as the recreation facilities management contract held by the YMCA Top End will be expiring.
The swimming pool and basketball stadium will continue to remain open to the public, with all current user groups and bookings being honoured.
With the growth of Palmerston has come an increased number of private gym operators who are delivering excellent services to the community, and Council believes it needs to support private local businesses.
City of Palmerston Mayor Ian Abbott expressed that given the pending changes, Council will continue to work closely with the YMCA Top End to ensure the community are kept well informed.
“We understand this can be a difficult situation for members, residents and staff of the facilities, we will continue to take every measure to ensure that these changes are managed appropriately”, he said.
“The City of Palmerston extends its gratitude to YMCA for the services and programs they have delivered in Palmerston over the past many years, and looks forward to a continuing relationship with this important organisation into the future”, he said.
Members of the Palmerston YMCA Top End facilities are advised to contact the YMCA directly to make arrangements with their memberships.
Council will make comments on the future use of the buildings in the near future.
