Senior’s Week 2012
12th – 19th of August saw a range of fantastic activities take place for seniors in the Palmerston and rural area as a celebration of Senior’s Week 2012.
Officiated by City of Palmerston Mayor Ian Abbott, the opening ceremony at Woodroofe Primary School marked the start of celebrations, with a special ‘Territorian Australiana’ theme.
A wonderful morning tea was hosted at the Palmerston Golf Club on Monday, giving friends a chance to catch up and enjoy a number of activities. This was followed by a special movie morning at C-Max Cinemas on Tuesday, where guests were treated to a special screening of hit Aussie movie, The Sapphires.
Wednesday saw the start of the week’s excursions with a special guided tour of Robertson Barracks, where visitors had the chance to check out the largest Army facility in the NT.
On Thursday, it was off to Adelaide River to take in the sites and stop by the War Memorial and Railway Museum before heading to Larrakeyah on Friday for a special tour of HMAS Coonawarra – home of the active fleet of Armidale Class patrol boats.
The week was capped off with a once in a lifetime ride around Marlow Lagoon on the back of a motorbike thanks to the generous members of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club.
Litchfield Mayor, Allan McKay had the honor of closing what was a very successful, if not busy, Senior’s Week 2012!
